Healthcare and Premature Mortality

The variety of diseases and reasons for ill-health is very broad. However, there are a few predominate causes of ill-health. These include cancer, cardiovascular disease (CVD); respiratory disease and mental health.

Cancer was the leading cause of death in Wiltshire during 2017, accounting for 27% of all deaths and 44% of under 75s (Primary Care Mortality Database)

There were nearly 130,000 admissions to hospital by Wiltshire residents in 2017-18 (Hospital Episode Statistics)

The prevalence of those registered with diabetes has been rising since 2010-11 and reached 6.3% in 2016-17 (Quality Outcomes Framework)

Referrals to the two-week wait cancer pathway reached 2,934 per 100,000 people in Wiltshire (Public Health England)
