Small area populations
To support local understanding, a number of small area population estimates have been created. Currently these include Community Area population estimates, Lower-layer Super Output Area (LSOA) population estimates and Parish population estimates. Note that the Community Area and LSOA populations are based on the ONS mid-2019 population estimates and the Parish populations are based on the ONS mid-2018 population estimates.
Community area population
The information included in the Excel file below has been extracted from the 'Mid-2019 Lower-layer Super Output Area Population estimates' file produced by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The information is converted into a Community Area geography using a LSOA to Community Area lookup.
The estimated resident population of an area includes all those people who usually live there, regardless of nationality. Arriving international migrants are included in the usually resident population if they remain in the UK for at least a year. Emigrants are excluded if they remain outside the UK for at least a year. This is consistent with the United Nations definition of a long-term migrant. Armed forces stationed outside of the UK are excluded. Students are taken to be usually resident at their term time address.

Parish populations
The information included in the Parish Populations Excel file below has been extracted from the 'Parish Population estimates for mid-2002 to mid-2017' file produced by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). These estimates are based on 2011 Parish boundaries. Output area population estimates have been allocated to Parishes on a best fit basis.

Lower-layer Super Output Area population
The information included in the Excel file below has been extracted from the 'Mid-2019 Lower-layer Super Output Area Population estimates' file, produced by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Lower-layer Super Output Areas (LSOAs) are built from groups of 2011 Census Output Areas (OAs), typically 4 to 6, and designed to have a population of between 1,000 and 3,000 persons. Wiltshire contains 285 LSOAs.
