There has been an increasing number of cases which have been reviewed as part of the Wiltshire and Swindon Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP) where the use of cannabis by the parents/carers had been identified as a risk factor within the home environment. This has led to wider discussions around how the use of cannabis is being perceived by those professionals engaged with families and how the associated risks of such substance use are being understood.
To begin to explore this landscape further, work was undertaken to review the available evidence-base exploring ‘problematic cannabis use and parenting’ to understand the association and impact.
This insight provides an overview of the findings which were presented to the Wiltshire Combating Drugs Partnership.
