Globally there is an ageing population, between 2015 and 2050, the proportion of the world’s population aged 60+ will nearly double from 12% to 22%. An ageing population will result in an increase in rates of dementia, disability and frailty affecting individuals, their families, carers and wider society, and the impact on health and social care services. This will have an impact on quality of life, cause ill-health and make people more vulnerable to flu and other seasonal illnesses as well as communicable and non-communicable diseases premature mortality.
The aim of this health needs assessment is to identify the unmet health and wellbeing needs of older people in Wiltshire in relation to prevention, delay and slow down of frailty and increase healthy life expectancy to support a healthy ageing population in Wiltshire. It will also include the impact of health inequalities across the life course. This HNA will inform recommendations of a healthy ageing programme of work to improve healthy ageing outcomes and reducing health inequalities for the Wiltshire population.
