The variety of diseases and reasons for ill-health is very broad. However, there are a few predominate causes of ill-health. These include cancer, cardiovascular disease (CVD); respiratory disease and mental health.
Over 500 people aged 0-74 died from cancer in Wiltshire in 2015 and a further 263 died from CVD
(Primary care mortality database, 2015).
Over 30,000 people in Wiltshire are thought to have a moderate or severe disability
(projecting adult needs and service information).
67,000 adults in Wiltshire are thought to have a common mental health disorder
(adult psychiatric morbidity survey, 2014).
The burden of ill health slide set highlights information covering premature mortality, cancer, prevalence of certain disease, mental health and accidents and injuries.
The burden of ill health data pack provides information on mortality, prevalence of disease, hospital admissions, mental health and disability. The data pack includes comparisons to England, the South West and Wiltshire’s statistical neighbours. Trend is also included where appropriate along with gender, age and deprivation analysis.
