Children and Young People

Supporting and improving life chances for children and young people is key to the future of Wiltshire. Ensuring that our children and young people are safe and healthy and that families have access to services that meet their individual needs at an early stage are crucial to making sure every child and young person has the best possible start in life.

Wiltshire is a relatively healthy and affluent area and outcomes for most children and young people are generally good compared to outcomes across England. However in 2013 10.6% of children and young persons aged 20 years or below in Wiltshire were living in low income families. The following report provides comparative analysis of a range of key indicators relating to children and young people in Wiltshire and is intended as a resource that helps to identify local priorities at Community Area level.

The information presented here provides a more detailed picture of how the wellbeing and achievement of children and young people varies across the county and is designed to help communities to understand local issues and to develop community-led work to improve local outcomes. The report includes detail on the number of children in low income families, children in need and education and pupil achievement at a local level.
