Health Improvement

Our behaviours and lifestyles have a major influence on our health. This chapter explores some of the lifestyles and behaviours that are known to have an impact on a person’s health. Behaviours such as alcohol consumption, physical activity, diet, cigarette smoking and drug misuse. These lifestyle choices are important risk factors for major diseases such as cancer, diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke and liver disease. Effective screening is also an important aspect of a healthy life.

Smoking prevalence in 2016/17 was estimated to be 14.9% in 2016/17 in Wiltshire (Quality Outcomes Framework)

1% of the eligible population received an NHS Health Check in 2017/18 (Wiltshire Council)
